Sobre a Revista

IYARIC is a graduate student-run journal at the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean, York University. The publication is intended to platform Black, Caribbean, and Indigenous voices and scholarship.

Iyaric, also referred to as Dread Talk, is the Rastafari language that was created in opposition to the colonial European language that was imposed on enslaved Africans in the Caribbean, resulting in the loss of their traditional African languages. Rastafarians utilize Iyaric to cultivate and assert their cultural, spiritual, and linguistic liberation from histories and institutions of oppression.
