IYARIC is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Production/Layout Editor(s) to join our editorial team for an initial one-year term, commencing November 1, 2026.
The Production/Layout Editor(s) will be responsible for shepherding accepted manuscripts from the production handoff through final publication. Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, Section Editors, Editorial Assistants, copyeditor(s), authors, translators, and publication partners, the Production/Layout Editor(s) will coordinate the journal’s production workflow and ensure that issues are produced accurately, consistently, and on schedule.
The position will require greater time commitment during periods of active production and publication, with lighter demands during other periods.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Production/Layout Editor, you will:
- Coordinate production of individual manuscripts and the Issue.
- Coordinate production-related corrections or adjustments before the composition of each manuscript.
- Typeset and Proof:
- Typeset copyedited manuscripts into page proofs;
- Establish and maintain a consistent visual and typographical style across articles and issues.
- Coordinate page-proof review with journal editors and authors.
- Track and incorporate approved corrections arising from the proofing process.
- Conduct quality-control checks of proofs and final files for formatting, pagination, typography, layout, and consistency.
- Lead digital and print publication of each manuscript and the annual Issue.
- Maintain a current production schedule for manuscripts slated for the annual issue.
- Coordinate the final preparation and release of the annual issue.
Who are we looking for?
- Current enrollment as a graduate student.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Reliability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with a small editorial team.
- Experience with typesetting, page layout, or digital publishing.
- Experience with design or layout software such as Adobe InDesign, Canva or equivalent tools.
- Experience with HTML, PDF production, or content-management systems is an asset.
- Previous experience with academic journals or scholarly publishing is an asset.
