Author Guidelines

  • The submission should have been previously published, nor should it be before another journal for consideration.
  • The submitted essay should be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references should be provided.
  • For media files, provide a link to the file (eg. google drive, OneDrive, etc.). Do not upload to the system. Email the editor to discuss alternative delivery if link cannot be provided.
  • The text should be single-spaced; use a 12-point font; and employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text should adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Chicago Manual of Style. The author-date system is the preferred of the two recommended Chicago-style source citation systems. Refer to citation guide here: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/chicago_manual_17th_edition/chicago_style_introduction.html
  • Submissions can be written in any of the journal languages: English, French (Canadian), Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian). Please email the Editor-in-Chief at iyaric@yorku.ca if you wish to submit in another language.
  • Critical essays and research articles should be 1500-3500 words in length; other written submissions should be a maximum of 3000 words; reviews should be 500-850 words.
  • Submissions should include an abstract or artist statement (250 words max.), working title, up to three keywords, and a short bio (150 words max.)
  • Research articles and critical essays will be peer reviewed. Reviews and creative works will be editor reviewed.
  • Since a double-blind review process is being pursued for research articles and critical essays, no reference to the author's name should be included within those articles.
  • Authors should aim to use vocabulary that is accessible to colleagues from different (sub)disciplines and, to the extent possible, background references (which might otherwise be considered obvious for scholars within the (sub)field of the submission) should be included for the benefit of the broader audience.
